All Hail MJD
The Jets are under .500 for the first time all year. The way these two teams played, it's a miracle the Jets were in position to win at all. The Jaguars looked great. The Jets did not. Ultimately, the difference was Jacksonville had the best player on the field, Maurice Jones-Drew. He had a brilliant first half and made one of the headiest and selfless plays you'll ever see to guarantee a win. What a great player he is.
The Jets probably have to win out to make the Playoffs and have a trip to Foxborough next week. It's just about time to revise our expectations for 2009.
Feel free to vent below.

We wouldn’t be talking any trash if we had lost, and we certainly aren’t now.
We are not your divisonal rivals (Jets/Bills/Pats). We’re just common AFC teams.
Also, the only person on this site who has engaged in any trash-talking, or whatever has been you. I’m not saying that is bad, just a little reminder.

How is the Jets game an upset
Deep down we all knew they would lose. This team is the same as last year, it is a collection of good players that arent winners. If they were, they wouldnt be on the Jets. They cant win at home, and they cant beat the teams they are suppose to beat. I cant wait until football is over now.
by YankeesJets on Nov 15, 2009 4:31 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It is
because we had the number one rushing attack and the number two defence and we were at home. It was an upset, not a big one, but still classes as one.
So what needs to be done to pull this team out of mediocrity?

Nothing needs to be done
They are who they are. These guys are great individual players, but they dont make a good team. It wasnt Mangini last year, these guys all take plays off, they forget how to tackle. The Jets were the favorites in this game because they were at home but this isnt an upset. An upset is the Jets beating the Pats, or the Raiders beating the Eagles.

They are 5-4, the Jets are 4-5, how are they worse?
The Jets were lucky to even be in this game. Between Scobie missing the FG, the Jag falling down after making the INT instead of running it in. MJD fumbling on the goal line. Dont believe the hype, the Jets arent as good as they say.

We need to address a lot of issues this off-season. We need to draft well, and I really want to see us address that position of the play-making safety. Rhodes is not the guy

I can live with Rhodes
What we really need is a dominant pass rusher. They arent getting enough sacks on QBs. The Jags were playing behind a patchwork line too. Knowing the Jets, they will draft another TE. Or maybe a fullback.

When you lose at home to the Bills, Dolphins, and Jags
You arent that good. The Jets always seem to play up to their opponent or down to them. Last year they could beat the Pats and Titans, but not the SEahawks, Raiders, and Niners. This year, they beat the Texans and Pats, but lose to these lower tiered teams. No excuses, this team is a pretender, not a contender.

by Bro Namath on Nov 15, 2009 5:57 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
So did Ratliff last year and he cant even get a snap in Cleveland
There is a reason these guys do well in the preseason, they are playing against second and third stringers.

ratliff should start in cleveland, those quinn and anderson are terrible.
sanchez is doing just fine. and he’s got upside.
by JetsFan1991 on Nov 15, 2009 6:04 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Mangini would get shot if he put the third stringer in
Even though, at this point Ratliff might be the best option. Mangini is getting a raw deal in Cleveland, they act like he walked into a winning situation there. That team wouldnt be any better with Cowher there. I think Mangini did the right thing in trying to wipe the slate clean and rid the team of guys that dont buy into the team concept.
by YankeesJets on Nov 15, 2009 6:09 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
lol really? Eric Ainge
Yer he didn’t look bad playing against 3rd and 4th stringers, most of whom are littering practise squads around the league. The guy throws a bad football, he would be lucky to complete a pass in the NFL. Sanchez wasn’t great, but it wasn’t his fault we lost the game today. Can’t always look for the scapegoat.

Sanchez isnt doing himself any favors with that press conference though
I think the media is going to chew him up. I did like what Braylon had to say, and I think he might actually become a leader on this team.
by YankeesJets on Nov 15, 2009 6:11 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
what’d he say? i was too disgusted from the game to watch any post-game
by JetsFan1991 on Nov 15, 2009 6:14 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
He came in and told the media to let him speak before he answers any questions
He then read what looked to be a prepared statement taking every bad play into account. He came off kind of surly, like he was only answering his own questions. I dont think I have ever seen a player do this. For a rookie to do it to the NY media, I was surprised. Last thing he wants to do is make enemies in the media.
by YankeesJets on Nov 15, 2009 6:20 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't have a problem was that
He wrote some things down after the game that he wanted to get off his chest, and then he took the questions. I can’t imagine it’s easy having to face a load of guys after a loss like that. He wanted to address everything that was on his fine, he was assured and presented professionally, if anything I think the NY media respected that. I know Lisa Zimmerman (sp??) has already said that she thought it was handled very professionally.

I think some of the press wont like it
I dont have a problem with it except for the fact that he had to have come right off the field into the locker room to prepare this, or was he already preparing these notes at halftime? If he was, it’s a big problem. It’s not like he had an hour after the game before meeting the press, its like 10 minutes after the game.
by YankeesJets on Nov 15, 2009 6:29 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
True
at the same time he wasn’t reading a pulitzer prize winning piece of work, he basically had a couple of plays and some names down on that sheet. It probably took around a minute to get down. If the media have a problem with it, and the only guy I can imagine having a problem with it is Cimini because he just looks for negative material, then that’s there problem. I liked it.
Even more than that, I loved Edwards, the guy put it on the line, saying were not scaring anybody, were not intimidating anybody, and right now we have nothing, were at the bottom, starting from scratch, and if we don’t do something this season is gone. We can’t expect to just go out and win, we need to execute. The guy was a pure leader there.

Sanchez Isnt What Bothers Me
Anybody that thought he was going to be a Pro Bowler who makes no mistakes this year, doesnt know much about football. What bothers me all the missed tackles. I dont want to hear about it being a new scheme this year. A tackle is a tackle. This defense is the most overrated in football. They dont score on the defense, they dont get sacks, and they dont tackle.
by YankeesJets on Nov 15, 2009 6:38 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Agreed
Sanchez is playing at a level where a lot of people thought he would be. The problems start at the DE and secondary spot for me, no pressure or very little from the DE’s and outside of Revis and occasionally Leonhard, we don’t have that main guy in the secondary. Hate to beat a dead horse here but Rhodes is the issue for me, he doesn’t make interceptions, he doesn’t hit hard and his coverage is inconsistent, I don’t know why he gets a pass as often as he does. maybe because he is fan friendly with all the interaction he does.
