The Jets have made two major trades with the Browns since Eric Mangini took over as head coach in Cleveland. The first was for the pick that turned into Mark Sanchez. The Jets gave up 1st and 2nd round picks, Kenyon Coleman, Abram Elam, and Brett Ratliff. In the second, the Jets got Braylon Edwards. Cleveland gave Jason Trusnik, Chansi Stuckey, and 3rd and 5th round picks. Which team has come out better?

Mangini Will Always Help The Jets

Anything to get Belichick. Browns fans should give Mangini some time to rebuild the team. They act like the Browns should be contenders now. Lets not forget that Mangini was behind a lot of our favorite players being Jets.

it’s pretty safe to say that the Jets management and overall image as an organisation basically tramples the Browns. Mangini was probably the worst signing (player or otherwise) this off-season and nothing positive has come out of his arrival at Cleveland. The players have been frustrated, the fans have been frustrated and the organisation is obviously frustrated. Their performance this year has not been surprising at all.

The Jets on the other hand are blossoming this season, as a team where overall expectations where not very high, and this season would be one with the main focus on growth, the team has been able to perform and show commitment to a new coach and a new quarterback.

the only real losses the Jets suffered in the trade for Sanchez was the draft picks. The trade itself was a huge risk, and had Sanchez not been the player he currently is with the motivation and desire to play for this team, along with some skills to succeed, the jets would be looking like fools for risking so much on a guy who had limited experience.

the Edwards trade is an interesting one. Stuckey was a player who was willing to put his body on the line for yardage and wasn’t exactly a player who was struggling to get involved in games. Edwards is in a long time slump now, but playing for a team like the Browns will do that to players. This is a real opportunity for Edwards to do something. His contract finishes this season if I’m correct, he’s playing for a good team which is committed to the season and he will be placed in a position where he will get the ball. It’ll be a test to him as a player to show that he deserves to earn a paycheck next year.

Its amazing how everybody here forgets when they were calling him Mangenius

While Mangini had me throwing the remote across the room late last year, people forget he had the team 8-3 last year, the media was talking SB. I was of the majority that felt we needed a different coach after the collapse, but I will give Eric his due. Do you guys like Revis? Mangini had plenty of input into drafting him. How about Washington? Another Mangini move. David Harris? Mangini. Mangold? Mangini. Keller? Mangini. Get my point? Give him some credit. Rex didnt put this team together, Eric helped build most of it.

100% right.

I am not a Mangini basher. If Chad or Favre would have stayed healthy, the Mangini run would have been much better than the multiple 10-6 and 4-12 seasons we had. Our success this year is in some capactity thanks to Mangini.. although the defense coaching this year and the FA pickups really are the difference maker on that side of the ball.

This is a tough one...

The Sanchez trade depends on whether he is a Palmer or a Leinart. So far, that trade looks pretty good for the Jets, who havent had a lot of success in the 1st round (certainly hit or miss). But the Browns are trading picks for depth, something we haven’t been great on. They moved down 10 or so spots in the draft for a 2nd round, and 3 players that can start or add depth.

As for the Edwards trade, again, they add depth. I think the Jets would have done a #1 pick for Marshall (another #1WR) if Denver okayed it, so to pick Edwards up for a #3, #5, and two impact players is overall a good deal, but again, Denver was likely to not resign Edwards anyway, so they are ditching their problem a few months early and are adding some depth and talent to the team.

The Jets are picking up starters from Cleveland in exchange for lots of depth. They are playing the same card as NE, trading away picks and players to add to their depth and draft picks next year. I guess it depends on whether we can lock down Edwards for a few years and if he returns to Pro Bowl form.

But both GMs get good grades for moving their team further down the path they are each on (Jets=win now, Browns=rebuild)

I don’t get this. Before the season, I was all for getting Braylon Edwards. But now that the offense and defense have both proven themselves, why mess with the chemistry? I don’t think the WR spot has been a problem this season.

Frankly Abram Elam

was the only one of the players we traded away that really looked good. and with our safeties we might have been lacking a spot for him on the roster anyway.

I agree, Mangini and management made great draft picks (except Gholston) which heavily contributed to our success so far this year. But to your question, I think the Jets are obviously managing better this year, plus they are a larger market and seem to chase bigger deals than the browns. Measuring up the Jets team to the Browns (abd properly crediting Mangina in his role of building the Jets) I have to saw the Jets have the better front office. But we all know I’m biased.

I like this trade!

A WR like Braylon Edwards should open up the field and hopefully help our running game come to life. As far as his attitude and off field troubles, our Vets and Rex should be able to turn him around. Lets hope so because right about now I’m feeling really good about our team.

Acquiring Edwards the day Crabtree signs? J-E-T-S spells T-A-M-P-E-R-I-N-G

Jets fans, this thread is about which front office is better but I’m not sure yours should get any marks until the Crabtree tampering charges are resolved.

It smells to high heaven that the day Michael Crabtree signs his contract is also the same day that the Jets acquire a receiver that they need…coincidence? Yeah right. Something just isn’t right with this timing so if I were you you guys I’d be a little worried about it. As a 49er fan I’m definitely looking forward to getting one of your draft picks though Goodell probably won’t have the stones to do that.

don't hold your breath

49ers front office was successful in shifting the focus away from their ineptitude with this crabtree situation.
just pick an easy target with the recently fined jets.
i still haven’t seen any solid evidence from anywhere.
