Time For A Change At QB?

Ok-I am not ready to shoot Sanchez...really I'm not.  But this team is too talented to allow our QB to blow games for us week in and week out.  He's tentative and obviously not ready for this stage.  The loss to the Saints and Bills can easily be pinned on Sanchez.  Our O-coordinator is being killed on these boards, deservingly so.  But is Clemens or Ainge worth playing in order to give our new QB a breather?  Woudl he benefit from being quasi benched in order to see the game from the sidelines?

I know all about growing pains...but I am all out of Advil and I am hurting along with the rest of Jets nation.

Ainge played double the games at Tennessee in a big SEC conference than Sanchez did at USC--maybe its worth a glimpse?

golden boy not so golden

Sanchez sucked in this game but your kicker missed one and then you had a problem with the snap on the next one. If they do their job game over Jets win all is forgiven.
Cut Sanchez some slack.

Don't forget that

he has started only 20 games since high school. He was a 14 game starter at USC and then went to the NFL. That is a large transition to make.

Whereas Henne started for 4 straight years at Michigan.

I don’t want to make this a Henne vs Sanchez debate, because I think there will be plenty of that over the next 10-15 years. I’m just saying that Henne showing a lot of poise is due partially to having started like 50 college games compared to just 14.

Blame the Jet defense and the offense, not inexperience

Henne looked good facing a Jets defense unable to mount any kind of pressure on the quarterback. They looked good against the Patriots due to the absence of Welker or a running game on the part of New England. Against Miami the Jets were forced to defend the run and couldn’t get to Henne. With time to throw it all looks easy.

In the game against Buffalo there was too much penetration by the Buffalo Defense. They were constantly in the face of Mark Sanchez – in fact so many of them were that Thomas Jones had no one to run into and occasionally had to run for 60 or 80 yards before being caught short of the end zone. It’s all too easy to cry “rookie” and blame the kid throwing the ball down the field into the hands of the defenders, but let’s be sure to point the finger at the “pro bowl” offensive line that hasn’t done much to protect the quarterback all season.

So there you have it: No pass rush, and with Jenkins gone not much chance against the running game. Add to that an offensive line unable to give Sanchez time to see the field and you have the makings of a 6-10 season.

I’d be just as happy to see them throw Clemmy into the fray if things get ugly in Oakland, but I can’t see things going any better for him either. Personally I’d rather see Erik Ainge take the field. Either way it might be illuminating to have someone else in the hot seat to see whether it’s the “rookie” or the veteran line that’s the problem.

Give him a break. Sanchez is really a solid QB, and the worst thing you could do to him is shake his confidence

further by benching him. He is going to have to play through it. i know it is painful to go through it as a fan, but you have to expect that when you start a rookie right out of the draft.

If Rex is smart (and this one is up for grabs), he will scale back the offense a bit, and get Sanchez back in the game with some easy completions – TEs, RB screens, underneath slants, high percentage stuff to get his confidence back, and then use that massive O-line you have to pound the rock. all you guys had to do to win yesterday was have Sanchez throw LESS, not more.

REALLY????

how do you think a 5 INT’s are going to affect him and his fragile state of mind. These players are paid big boy money for being able to take the heat so I’d put a real short leash on him until he can prove that he can read a D and look off a saftey or corner

yes, yes, typing in all caps is very impressive.

especially since you are arguing with me, but actually just re-stating what I posted.

shake his confidence further by benching him.
see that word “further”? that means in addition to the 5 INTs (no apostrophe there, BTW).

If Rex is smart (and this one is up for grabs), he will scale back the offense a bit, and get Sanchez back in the game with some easy completions – TEs, RB screens, underneath slants, high percentage stuff

And this part? This is usually pretty indicative of a “short leash”, wouldn’t you say? Or did you actually mean putting a collar on him and walking him up and down the sidelines?

A few weeks ago you were kissing his jock. Now, because he actually plays like a rookie for 1 week, you want to bring in someone else. Yeah, that makes sense.

As for Sanchez only starting 12 or 14 games in college, it’s a poor excuse because he had another year to play but he CHOSE to enter the draft, its not like he was forced into this position so in his mind he was ready for the next level which means he felt he didn’t need to play more games at the college level so he is accountable. I believe he made a mistake and if I’m not mistaken, Pete Caroll tried to get him back for his last year so I don’t think his college head coach thought he was ready for the pros. In college ball you have a few guys that are good on each team but in pro ball every guy on the field is fast and strong especially the DBs which is why I think Sanchez bit off more than he can chew right now.

Sanchez

thought he was ready…to make some money in a QB weak draft. Most people woulda jumped at that offer (Bradford being the poster-child of why to leave earlier and get drafted high)

College???

Caroll may have been looking out for himself as well,do you actually think he wanted to go into the season with unseasoned QB he saw championship if Sanchez stayed Caroll knew that he had a very good o-line and a great ground game Sanchez was the keystone to the whole thing , but his defense he was still kind of looking out for Sanchez I mean Caroll coached at this level so he knows what it takes to be sucessful in this league

Please keep Sanchez in

This way the Patriots will easily win the division by 4 games. Please Rex keep him in there!!!!! Guess Pete Carroll isn’t as dumb now is he??

LOL

so you are saying that you are worried that if the Jets put in a new QB, they will kick your ass?

yeah, I don’t really like the jets, but i would have to agree with you there. Hey, look at the bright side… with Kris Jenkins out your O-line might be able to protect brady and his knee for a few more games before he ends up on IR again for the season. but i wouldn’t count on it. the vegas over/under is 8. that’s gonna suck huh?

The view from Detroit, keep him in unless you feel you have something better on the bench.

A rookie QB is tough to watch sometimes, but I think you have seen enough of the potential of Sanchez to realize that he can be a good NFL QB. He needs the experience and unless you and the Jets organization really think a change at QB will win more games I would grin and bear it.

We went through this same issue in Detroit. It took Stafford’s injury to make the Staff haters realize that he is far and away our best option at QB. In retrospect, it was a blessing that Culpepper got to show what he could do. Pretty much ended our QB controversy.

Pros and cons either way. One thing that does concern me is whether he can play in the cold weather

If he has trouble when the temps get low, then there is obviously a problem. Having played in SoCal his entire pre-pro career, this may be something to watch.

honestly

what did we as Jets fan expect? we got spoiled with an amazing start from this rookie quarterback, but we need to know he is just that; a rookie. and even with the five INTs against buffalo, we still only lost in overtime, by a field goal. granted, the Bills hurt themselves throughout the game too, but if the team sticks by this kid, and yes, picks up some of his slack, we’ll be okay.

ITS TIME FOR A GREEN OUT!

Its refreshing to see

a fan who understands that you have to stick with the kid you invested your future in, and not call for his head after a bad 3 game streak, rookies make rookie mistakes

QB Change?

Well I say keep playing him and as soon as he gets into throwing interceptions bring in Ainge or Clemens. Sorry but that game with Buffalo could have been won in overtime with either of the backup QB’s. I think Ryan should be more concern with winning games and not so concern as how he wins them. Sanchez has the makings of a good QB but he lacks experience; and they don’t have to let him fall on his face at the expense of losing a game in order to have him build character and get better. We are a team and should play like a team. If they need to pull him out even for one play they should. The lost to Buffalo should rest solely on the coach.

QB change ???

Don’t blame Sanchez for the lousey play calling, those plays came from the bench. Think about it. Why were the Jets throwing into 30 mph winds when they’re ahead in the game, and playing a team that’s last in run defense in the league? I’ll tell you why, BAD COACHING !!!
