New York Jets Run Offense vs. Buffalo Bills Run Defense

It's time for the Jets to make a change. Thomas Jones isn't really doing the job. Part of it isn't his fault. Teams are stacking the box. That makes it tough to run. It also means you have to either make men miss like Leon Washington or have the strength to run through them like Shonn Greene. Leon looked explosive against the Dolphins. Greene looked really good when he got a series against the Saints. Let them handle the load for a week, and see what happens.

The Bills have one of the worst rush defenses in the league. They give up over 154 on the ground per game and 4.7 per rush. This is a good week to pound the rock. It's not necessarily going to be easy up the middle. Marcus Stroud and Kyle Wiliams are a strong tackle tandem against the run. The Bills also look like they're going to get a pair of key players in their run defense, Paul Posluszny and Donte Whitner, back from injury. One starting outside linebacker, Kawika Mitchell was lost for the season last week, and the other, Keith Ellison is fighting through a knee injury.

This is a week to try and get the ball outside, utilizing Washington. The Jets should run right, near Chris Kelsay and Mitchell's replacement. Second year player Jon Corto from Sacred Heart is likely to see time there. Test out the relative inexperience of whomever lines up there.

You don’t bench Jones, the leading AFC rusher through 5 games, he isn’t doing dreadful just not as good as expected. But if your going to give the ball to someone more it’s gotta be Leon. He has earned it this season, seeing 8 man fronts and still getting over 4 yards a carry. Greene is promising but you don’t give him a starting job on 7 carries for 31 yards through 2 games.
