'What If' Scenarios
So moving towards Monday nights showdown in Miami we have been greeted tonight with an injury report that makes me a little bit nervous. Not so much with the player that is out (Donald Strickland) but with the players that are questionable, most notably Jerricho Cotchery and in particular Damien Woody.
So god forbid one or both of them are unable to play, what happens? where do we turn? and will it be suitable replacements?
Well let's take Jerricho Cotchery first, and although he missed his 2nd straight day of practise today, I'm confident he will be lined up across from Edwards come game time on Monday night. No particular reason, just a hunch.
However if he can't go we will see a rotation of Brad Smith, David Clowney and Wallace Wright. None of whom fill me with that much confidence. Smith's routes are still pretty raw and although he can make that odd spectacular catch, always struck me as a juggler. Wright has really shown nothing and Clowney has potential but we have barely seen him like up this year. We all know he can run a post, but can he work in the intermediate and short routes. I really don't know because I haven't seen enough of him, no-one has, in NFL regular season games.
However that does not worry me as much as the Damien Woody injury. People seem to have faith in Hunter, but I just don't. I don't think he can turn his shoulders and deal with the explosive outside rush. I don't think he gets enough push off the line. A 3rd round pick who has been in the most part disappointing.
I guess we will have to wait and see, but I'm hoping that both are ready to go on Monday.
If Sheppard can't go then we will see the normal rotation the past few games, Lowery as the 2 and Coleman as the Nickel. Coleman has actually not been half as bad as I thought he was going to be, so credit to him. Kerry will play.

If Cotchery can't go
drop Clowney in his spot and Smith in the slot. There’s no better chance to let Clowney earn his wings than Monday if we don’t have our starter, he looked more than talented enough and I’m hoping he can show that in the regular season.
Don’t get me wrong though, I’d much prefer the 1-2 punch of Edwards and Cotchery both producing, but we have yet to see if that will come to fruition.
Damien Woody being out could really cripple the O-line. Not only does he have an unproven backup but Moore could have a much more difficult time without him at his side.
I’m trying to be patient waiting for our cornerback and nickelback to come complete the D and show us what they all look like together the most though. Jets D is what I want to see.

Depth
Is a big issue on offense. I feel like Rex has a defense he feels can perform and they do a lot of sub packages already, so i am a little less worried about depth there (Jenkins). What I mean by this is we can still compete but we wont be a top 5 defense if we lose a Revis or Rhodes or Jenkins.. it was tough enough with Pace out and he have quite a few options at OLB.
On offense, our depth is terrible everywhere except RB. We have Clemens behind Sanchez, no one behind Richardson, Hunter and Turner behind the OL, and we are obviously thin at TE. We brought in 3 offense players in the last draft, and signed at least that many on defense, but I think we really need to think about the offense again in FA next year. I think we should be okay at WR if we can keep Edwards and he perfoms at a #1 or #2 WR level, but we need to get some help for Keller (a big blocking TE) and we need to start thinking about Richardson retiring since he is like 90 years old. The O-Line is a whole other story and i just think you need a few quality 2-3 round picks to shore that up if the guys we have cant cut it.

Cant disagree there
Defensively I think we are ok, I think we need to go to the defensive line early in the draft next year but outside of that I quite like the depth that we have.
Offence is a different story, I really like Hatsock as the blocking TE, he has done a cracking job so far, and it was his (as well as Richardson’s) block that set Jones free for his TD in Houston. So I’m not so worried about the TE Position. However the O-line is a problem, I don’t think we need to go first round with it, but like you say 2nd and 4th round would be for the best (we don’t have the 3rd) So hopefully we can address that this off-season, get contracts done for Leon and Braylon(if he proves successful). All in all I would say we are pretty much set for a long time.

What if the Jests didn't suck?
Sanchez isn’t going to be more than a average QB. Sanchez is Way overrated and so is this Jests team.

Cameron Wake is FAST
and Woody has a messed up foot, it may be a matchup that ends up in our favor.

Could possibly
We will have to wait and see how banged up the foot is, and if it’s a little worse than expected, can expect a stay at home full back protecting that side, and Richardson is a hell of a blocker.

richardson isn't going to be able to help woody out all the time so
Wake should have two more sacks this week

Woody won't need help all the time
His foot is problematic, but if he is at a point where he has lost that mobility and is likely to get beat, he won’t play.
