Catching Up With Richie
Newsday has a brief interview with Rich Kotite, the worst head coach in Jets history. Kotite compiled a 4-28 record in two seasons with the club. After just about every loss, he would give the team credit by saying, "We played hard," and described his defense as "swarming."
He seems like a nice enough man, but his problem was that he tried to make being an NFL head coach into a lifestyle job. A lot of coaches sleep in their office. He would sometimes leave practice early to beat rush hour traffic on the Long Island Expressway.
The biggest indictment of Kotite is Bill Parcells winning 9 games in 1997 with essentially the same roster Kotite led to a single win the previous season.
