Sutton Remains

Incredibly, the Jets have decided to retain embattled former defensive coordinator Bob Sutton under a new title.

The team also announced that Bob Sutton will return as senior defensive assistant/linebackers. The announcements were made by head coach Rex Ryan.

It is good that Sutton will no longer be running the defense, but it is just as stunning that he found a way to keep a job with the team. Maybe one could argue he can give the new staff insider knowledge of the roster, but is this really a good thing? In three years as a coordinator, he failed to figure out how to utilize his talent properly. 

Eric Mangini should have gone. However, his coordinators were at the root of the problem with their lousy gameplans. Both get to stay with the team.
