The Media Can't Quit Brett Retirement Stories
Back when he was in Green Bay, a lot of NFL fans got angry with Brett Favre because of the constant retirement speculation following him. This anger was misplaced. Take his response to a media question today.
"I don't see how anyone, aside from you guys, can focus on next year when what we're trying to do right now is win and do something this year," Favre told reporters Wednesday. "I'm 39 years old. I know the better days are behind me, for the most part. There won't be 16 more years or 17 more years. I'm trying to enjoy and help this team win now."
The topic of conversation is apparently 2009, not the first place showdown between the Titans and the Jets this weekend. This is reporting at its finest.

Dude.
Nobody would keep asking him this question if he would just make up his mind and let it die. But no. Favre has to do the dance EVERY FREAKIN’ YEAR!
I mean, come on now. He is not the first great QB to decide to retire. Hell, Kurt Warner could have this kind of thing if he wanted it. But he never brings it up. It’s not a question. You ask him, and he just says, “No. I’m not retiring.” And that is the end of it. And yes, Warner is younger than Favre, but this thing with Favre has been going on a while, and Warner’s not THAT young.
This thing is a circus because Favre is a clown. If he takes off the red nose and the big floppy shoes, it’ll go away.

"No. I'm not retiring." or "Yes. This is my last year."

in the middle of the season
pretty unreasonable expectation to assuage the broken hearted school girl feelings of the Packers fan Favre haters. It would be pretty stupid for the Jets to even push it at all.

Does the Dance?
This could be an AFC Championship Game preview. Why should Favre have to know in November what his plans are for next year? He and the media should be focusing on the game.

I would be fine with that if he only did it once. Or even twice.

You’re ignoring context. Jets GM isn’t Ted Thompson who wanted him out 2 years ago and made sure he knew it including stupid roster moves.
Hey, intersting evaluation by you: Favre may be better than Pennington was, but he’s not a lot better, and after two weeks, it seems clear that he’s not as good as A. Rodgers has become.

Anyone have a silver cross and a wooden stake? :)
Seriously though, it seems like a tacky question to ask at the best of times. If you’re Joe Accountant, and you just finished a brilliant report outlining how you managed to deliver the company it’s best profit margin in 15 years, how do you feel when someone asks you when you’re going to finally retire?
