Justin Miller Released
The Jets have released cornerback Justin Miller to clear roster room for Ty Law. Miller, a former second round pick, ends three and a half disappointing years with the club. He never developed the cover skills to go with a natural ability that had some projecting him as a future shutdown corner.
Miller had turned into a quality return man, but the emergence of Leon Washington after a serious injury to Justin last year rendered any possible contributions in that area of the game moot. This is no major loss. Law may be over the hill, but he certainly brings more to the table as a cover guy than Miller.

I don't disagree with your premise, John,
but there is definitely still a part of me sad to see Justin go. His return skills were excellent prior to the injury, and if he could return to full health, it’s hard not to wonder if he could have in time used his athleticism to turn himself into that cover corner this team once expected him to be.
I agree that the returning duties are no doubt safe in Leon’s hands, but there was an excitement factor to Miller that I had hoped to have back on the field one day, albeit likely (and preferably) in a defensive role.
That said, it is clear that the time to win is now with this team, and the move is no doubt a sensible one. Here’s to a big Gang Green performance on Thursday!
